The Snow Flower Diaries – Joyful World Sal – December

It’s hard to believe that we are at the start of December already and that means it’s time to share the final panel from the ‘ Joyful World Sal from Snow Flower Dairies.

I say last panel, but in my case I still have three more panels to stitch, not monthly ones but frames from Winter, Spring and Summer, but there’s not hurry to get those done, I can stitch them at me leisure.

What I did do last week was to fully finish the monthly panels, adding different trims for each season, so they are all ready to go when the time comes.

Thank you Maja, for sharing your lovely charts. It’s been a fun year long stitch-a-long and I’m looking forward to finding another to keep me busy stitching throughout next year.

Happy  Stitching!

The Snow Flower Diaries – Joyful World Sal – November

Happy November everyone!

Earlier in the month I stitched the November panel of the Joyful World Sal from Snow Flower Dairies.  It doesn't really show up in the photo, but I gave the Peacocks tail a bit of sparkle by adding in some Glissengloss.

Yesterday I FFO’d it onto mountboard and edged it with my Autumn choice of Lady Dot Creates, mini pompoms

and it's now attached to my Autumn magnetic frame.

Just one more panel left to stitch for December and then this Sal from 2016 (not that I started stitching it then) will be done.  All I have left then will be three more frames for Winter, Spring and Summer.

Happy Stitching!

Time to Finish the Job

I love my hobby and I’m sure that most of you love to stitch too, but what I’m not so keen on is the finishing of pieces.

Framing is fine, because I just take them to ‘Frames of London’, buy a ready-made frame or pick one up at a charity shop, but it’s the things that aren’t going into frames that give me the most grief, especially if they require me to get my sewing machine out.

Tuesday and Wednesday of this week I decided it was time to make a dent in the pile of things I have sitting here waiting to be FFO’d, or at least get as far as I could with some that are on-going projects

The first thing I FFO’d is ‘Waiting for the Harvest’ from ‘The Winds of Autumn’ book from Blackbird Designs.

I had a chalkboard pumpkin that was perfect for this.

I used a rectangle of scrapbook paper and attached the piece onto mount board before decorating it with some buttons and flowers.

Next up it was the panels from two  Sal’s that I’m working on at the moment.

I made ten little hanging ornaments with the  Jeanette Douglas ‘Mini Bouquet Sal panels.  I still have two more panels for this to stitch, and when the December one is finished I’ll be able to show how they are completed.

I then went on to finish some more of the stitched panels of ‘The Joyful World Sal from The Snowflower Diaries.

Again, I still have the November and December panels to stitch and then I’m going to do three more frames to change out in Winter, Spring and Summer, so I still have quite a bit of work to do on this one.

And Finally, I couldn’t put it off any longer and got the sewing machine out.

Back in January I started to stitch the ‘Little Sheep Virtues’ from Little House Needleworks and I was going to finish them as pillows, on 32ct linen, two over two. Then, as you have probable seen in a previous post, I changed my mind and decided to stitch them all in piece of fabric with ‘Sheep in the Meadow from Cottage Garden Samplings’ in the centre and changed the linen to 36ct and worked them 1one over two.

The two panels I had already stitched just sat there, but today I made them into two little pillows, with some wool panels I had in my stash.

I still have one or two more things that need fully finishing and I’m hoping that I can do those over the weekend.

 Happy Stitching!

Joyful World Sal – Frame

My plan is to have the twelve panels of the Sal be interchangeable and have a stitched frame for each of the four seasons, so today I made a start on FFO’ing the autumn frame.

I found an 8” x 10” frame that fitted the stitched frame perfectly, so I covered some mount-board with batting and put a magnet in the centre, on the front before lacing the stitched frame over the top.

I then went on to FFO the October panel, again stretching it over mount-board and batting before gluing some ‘Lady Dot Creates, small pomp pom trim around the edge and covering the back with some sticky backed velvet.

The final step was to glue a metal washer to the back

and mounting it onto the frame.

Joyful World Sal – October

I finished the October panel from the 2016 Joyful World Sal, from the Snow Flower Diaries, just in the nick of time!

I also finished the Autumn border that will frame the September, October and November panels, as I change them out each month.
It was stitches on mystery 28ct fabric, 1 over two and I used Weeks Dye Works threads in Rust, Tiger’s Eye, Crimson, Red Rocks, Terra Cotta, Taffeta, Charcoal and DMC 327.

Another Chatelaine Weekender in the Bag!

Once again this past weekend I joined in with the Chatelaine Weekender and the goal I set myself on Friday, was to finish the lace in the lower left-hand corner.

There were a few more of the leaves, made up with specialist stitches (Rhodes and Rice stitches) to stitch.

Then I went on the do a bit more of the border, bringing to about half way up the side,  but I couldn’t decide whether to continue on and do the outside flowers of the border or go on and make a start on the next one over one butterfly.

The butterfly won because logic was telling me that if I finished the border off first it would mean I would probably end up stitching two butterflies, one after the other.

At least by doing it in this order, I would give myself a break of ‘normal’ stitching in-between doing them!

So this is where I finished up on Sunday Evening.

I also had a couple of small starts last week.

The first is Little Sheep Virtues ‘Kindness’, from Little House Needleworks.     I managed to get most of the border stitched.

The other thing I stitched on was from the Joyful World Sal by the Snowflower Diaries.

My plan for the twelve monthly panels is to display the appropriate one, each month in a frame, as you can see in my last post.

The Snowflower Diaries also provides a chart for a pretty border that can go around them, in the frame, so I decided that I wanted to do that, but I’m going to do a different one for each of the four seasons.

Obviously I’ve started with autumn.   I changed the colours to a suitable colour pallet and I’m adapting the chart a little to suit the season, changing some of the flowers to acorns and berries……..well that’s the plan, anyway, will see as I get more stitching done.

Well, that’s about it for another week.

I’m not sure how much I will get done in the coming week because I’m preparing for my birthday celebration this weekend coming, with some special friends, so we will have to see if I manage to get any stitches in.

Happy Stitching!

Happy Autumn!

Where is the year going I ask myself?

It seems that we hit September and everything changes.  It’s overcast and breezy and we have rain forecast, which we can’t complain about because it’s so desperately needed here in the South East.  It’s getting dark earlier in the evenings too but on the up side it’s only about 12 weeks until I can put up my Christmas decorations, Lol!

Talking of Christmas, I stitched a bit more on ‘Oh Holy Night – Nativity from Stoney Creek this week and now you can see the little lamb emerging from the hay.

I haven’t stitched on anything else this week but I’m ready to start on my next Little Sheep Virtue, from Little House Needleworks, which will be Kindness,

and then the next basket for Jeanette Douglass’s Mini Bouquet Sal, neither of which are big stitches, so they shouldn't take me long to do.

It’s also the start of Sampler September and Sheri, the Colorado Cross Stitcher, of Cross Stitch Camp fame is starting the first Sampler Camp, which should be fun.  I think the virtual camp is running from September to December, but I could be wrong about that, I’ll have to check.

Anyway, I hadn’t originally planned to join in because I didn’t think I had any samplers in my stash, or so I thought.  But then I remembered that I had ‘The Stitcher’ from Homespun Elegance all kitted up and ready to go.

I think it should pass as a sampler; after all, it has an alphabet on it, right!

Oh well, time for some lunch I think and then a coffee and some stitching.  The ironing can wait until tomorrow!

.Happy Stitching!

The Snow Flower Diaries – Joyful World Sal – August & September

I've managed to get two more panels from the Sal under my belt this month, which means I'm ahead again with the stitching.

August was a cute little Black and White dog, that one of my Instagram followers named Reggie.

When I asked her why Reggie, she said sounded a very British name, but when I heard Reggie, I immediately thought the Kray twins,  Ronnie and Reggie, the notorious London gangland leaders, Lol!

The second panel, which is for September was a real ‘hoot’ to stitch, for obvious reasons.

Just three panels left to stitch now, so I really should start thinking about getting the box and magnets ready for finishing.

Happy Stitching!

The Snow Flower Diaries – Joyful World Sal – May

Here’s my latest ‘May’ panel, complete two cute kitties and a sweet little bird.

Having finished  ‘May’ I’m actually more than half done with these panels, that because I’ve already stitched June and July.

I did them as part of my Stitch Maynia last year, so I just have  five more to go.

 Happy Stitching!

The Snow Flower Diaries – Joyful World Sal – April

Yah……April is here and so is my finished  April panel for the Sal.

I really love stitching the panels that Maja Mátyás, the Hungarian designer came up with for the stitch-a-long back in 2016 and the mere fact that people are still starting them in 2022 is testament to what a fun stitch they really are.

I also spent some time partially finishing off the six panels I have already stitched,

but I quickly realised that my plan to split them into seasons and have three panels in a frame together wasn’t going to work in the frame I had already brought some time back.

I’ve now decided on another way of fully finishing them, so the next time I go into town I need to look for something to edge them with and a search out a new frame……..I feel a charity shop rummage coming on!

Spring Tier-Tray - Finishing

I’m so excited to share a photo of my first seasonal tier –tray, now that I fully finished the three little pillows that I stitched.

Let’s Paint Eggs – Jelly Bean Jubilee

Tip-toe Through the Tulips - Jelly Bean Jubilee

Spring - Needle Bling Designs

You may also remember that I restarted stitching the Joyful World Sal from the Snowflower Diaries because I wasn’t happy with the colour of the linen I was using.

I had already stitched three panels on the green fabric and I didn’t want to waste them, so I made them into little pillows too, but have left the edges plain, rather than adding ric-rac or trim.

Joyful World Sal – The Snow Flower Diaries

With March comes the first sign for spring and the promise that new life is just around the corner!

But as I stitched this panel, I couldn’t help but reflect on what is happening in Europe and wishing that it really was a ‘Joyful World’.

Sadly it’s far from it.

Russia has invaded Ukraine, causing much bloodshed and heartache; millions are fleeing the country, leaving their loved ones to fight for their homeland.  And to add to all of that, president Putin is using the nuclear threat, invoking WW3, something no one ever wanted to see or hear.

I hope and pray for sense to be seen soon and that dialogue can bring this to a fast end so that everyone can live in harmony.

The Snowflower Dairies – Joyful World re-start

 3rd January

You may remember, I started this Sal last summer, when I stitched 3 panels on Honeydew Green fabric, only to decide I didn’t like the colour.  I then started again and stitched June, and July.

This year is the year I actually finish it!

The project  was a free Sal from 2016 and the panels are all very cute, so I’m looking forward to working on them throughout the year.

Here is January, with sweet Mr Fox.
