Gingerbread House Globe Charmed Ornament – Mill Hill (MH16-1932) and some much needed finishing!

Stitching has been a little sparse this week but I did manage a little finish.

We are exactly half way through the 12 in 24 Christmas Ornament Sal, hosted by Carol, over at Stitching Dream Blogspot and my JUne ornament is the cute Gingerbread House Globe, Charmed Ornament from MIll Hill.

For once I was a good girl and FFO’d it straight away, but that’s not surprising when you consider it was just a case of adding some sticky backed velvet to the reverse. Then I made a small start on the next one, for July, 'Angel Globe'

Still in the mood for finishing,  I pulled out a couple of things from my ‘Finishing Box of Doom’.  There are several things in there, one of which is the Time & Season sampler from Bothy Threads,

that I finished in 2013   (imagine embarrassed face here)

The first thing I pulled out hasn’t been languishing in there for that long, only since April this year and it’s the ‘Sampler Bunny’ from La-D-Da.

It’s my first ever attempt at a stand-up and I decided it might be easier to hand sew it, especially as it’s quite small.

Next, I had a couple of pieces to frame.

The first was the Golden Wedding Anniversary piece I stitched for my friend’s Dad and Stepmum.

The frame came from Picture Frames Express where I get most of my custom frames.

The second piece was the ‘With Love’ sampler from Modern Folk Embroidery, that I stitched and framed back in February.  I didn’t make a very good job of it then, so decided to take it out of its frame and have another go.

I’m much happier with it second time around.

The final thing I pulled out was ‘Hello Winter’, from Plum Street.

I couldn’t decide how to finish this one but in the end I decided to make a flat fold.

So, that ‘s  4 new FFO’s to add to my tally of  18 for the  #ffochallenge2024 with @jenquilter and @pennysdaughtershares

 over on Instagram.

Happy Stitching!

Golden Wedding Sampler, Gold Roses & Orchids’

You may recall me telling you about my lovely friend Tracey, who lost her battle with breast cancer a couple of years ago and how I am now the proud owner of her beautiful dresser, that now displays some of my stitching.

One of her last requests to me was that I would keep an eye on the elderly parents for her.  Although I didn’t really know them very well, naturally I agreed and now we keep in touch by phone  and I visit them every couple of months.

When I visited them last week, they surprised me with an invite to a special lunch to celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary.

After giving it a lot of thought, I came to the conclusion that after being married for 50 years, they probably had everything they needed but I still wanted to give them a gift and decided to stitch them a small sampler to celebrate their special day.

This is ‘Golden Wedding Sampler, Gold Roses & Orchids’, a chart from STG Stitch UK on Etsy.

The frame has been ordered from Picture Frames Express, so I’ll be able to fully finish it in good time for their special day at the start of July.

Updated to show FFO of Golden Wedding Sampler  30/6/24

I also made a good bit of progress on my Butterfly Lace Chatelaine over the weekend.  This is where I left it last time.

My main aim was to finish that but Yellow butterfly that I’ve been working on for the last week or two.

Then I continued to work on the flowers and butterflies in the outer border and some of leaves around the big butterfly.

I’m now beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel, with just two small butterflies and large one still to stitch.  I can also see that my aim to have this finished by my birthday in September may now be a real possibility, meaning I will have been working on it for 3 years, as it was my 65th birthday start.

Happy Stitching!

Prairie Schooler Santa – 2001

It doesn’t seem five minutes ago we were welcoming in the new year and now, here we are saying hi to May already.

Stitching wise, April went well.

I worked on seven projects during the month, two of which were new starts and three were finishes.

One of the new starts was my 12 in 24ornament, which was also one of my finished items.

That is the Prairie Schooler Santa from 2001.

Updated (4/6/24) to show FFO

I also picked up the 1995 Santa again that was started back in July last year and them promptly lost.

Now it’s back safe and sound with the rest of my wips and will be finished as my May ornament.

There was another ‘Chatelaine Weekender’ to join in with and I continued to stitch on that big yellow butterfly.

I had hoped to get it finished but I didn’t quite make it, so may be this weekend!

And then it was May, and for many in the stitching world, that means only one thing, ‘May-nia’.  As the name suggests, it involves stitchers' 'manically' stitching away on silly numbers of projects or new starts throughout the month.

I’ve decided not to join in this year because I have a gift that needs to be urgently stitched in a bit of a hurry.

I started ‘Golden Wedding Sampler Gold Roses & Orchids’

by STG Stitch UK (Etsy) on 1st May and I’ll be concentrating on it until it’s done.

I’m working on 32ct Murano Evenweave, in Ivory, using my own colour conversion of DMC threads and it’s my 43rd new start for the celebrate 50 startalong  with Michelle from Penny’s Daughter Shares, on Instagram.

Now, what is it they say…….April showers bring May Flowers!

Well I dodged the showers to get some of my summer bedding plants into my pots and baskets.

I’m pleased with the way the garden is looking now the new lawn has been laid and the rain and major thunder storm in the early hours of this morning meant I didn’t need to water it today.
I really can’t wait for the weather to change so I can get some stitching done out there.

Happy Stitching!
