New Years Eve 12 x 12

Opps…….it looks like I lied when I said that my Prairie Schooler Snowman was my final start for 2023.

It would seem that somehow I’ve gone down a rabbit hole and am joining in with @keabeequilting and doing the New Years Eve 12 x 12 for the first time.

The aim is to have 12 new starts, starting at midday and  finishing by the time the bells ring out at midnight to welcome in the New Year.

These are the twelve projects I'm going to be starting, but I'm not sure how happy I'm going to be having so many wips at the end of the evening.  Those that know me will know I usually only have three of four and mostly work on one project at a time.

Wish me luck that I can stay awake until midnight and see in 2024!

Happy Stitching and Happy New Year!

Santa’s & Snowmen 3 & 4 – Prairie Schooler

Just managed to sneak in one last new start, two finishes and four mini  fully finishes that go to make a bigger fully finish before the start of the New Year.

The start and two finishes are my first two Snowmen from the Santa’s & Snowmen by Prairie Schooler.

You may notice that mine are slightly different from the chart.

I needed them to be square, to fit into the tray, so I've added some extra snowflakes down one side of each of the panels and finished them as flat ornaments.

My over all plan is to stitch the remaining 2 Santa’s and 2 Snowmen,  so I can interchange them and display four snowmen for Winter and four Santa’s  next Christmas.

 Happy Stitching!

The Advents are Finished and a New Year is on the Horizon

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas

After all that preparation, it’s hard to believe that it’s over and we are just two days away from a new year.

Christmas for me was a quiet one, but it gave me the time for some stitching and although there was no new start on Christmas Day, I did instead finish the two Advent Sals I had been working on since the start of December.

The first was the countdownsal2023 which I will frame.

The second was the Advent Tree Sal (2022) from em_bea_roidery on Etsy, using the 25 threads from the countdown sal and I finished it in a hoop.

Both sals were fun to stitch, but really do have to thank the team at Evertote, Kerri  from  Roxy Floss Co, and Jacob of Modern Folk Embrodery, for putting the countdown together for us, as well as the gift of the extra chart on Christmas Day, I can't wait to stitch it!

Happy Stitching!

The Christmas Tree Farm is Growing

I’m four more day into my Holiday Countdown Sal and it means I’ve added another four trees to the 2020 Sal from  em_bra_roidery on Etsy.

Just two trees to go and then it will be ffo’d into a hoop.

This is where the countdown is after the addition of the four new threads.

 Happy Stitching!

Santas & Snowmen – Prairie Schooler

I’m really enjoying stitching the smalls from this Prairie Schooler chart, they are such fun.

This is the 2nd finish that will eventually go into the wooden dish I purchased.  The aim this year was to stitch two Santas and two Snowmen. I doubt I will have all four done by the big day, but I’ve still got three days, so who knows!

Eventually I will do all of them and display four Santas leading up to Christmas and then change them out for Snowmen for the rest of the Winter.

I just made a small start on the first of the Snowmen, which

happens to be  start 13 for Michelle’s (pennysdaughtershares) celebrate 50 start along, where we aim to have 50 new starts before her 51st birthday next September.   I’m not sure I will make it because 50 is a lot, but it will be fun seeing how many I actually manage.

Happy Stitching!

My Mystery Daily Stitch

In my last post I said that I had been working on something else, alongside my Holiday Countdown Sal and since the last showing I’ve added two more beautiful colours of Roxy Floss  thread to it.

Anyway, going back to the other project, last year I saw that there was a free embroidery sal from @em_bra_roidery, on Instagram, but by the time I saw it, it was a little late to start.

Beatrice does a free Sal every year but I thought the trees from last year would be the perfect way to show off the flosses used on the Holiday Countdown so far.

So, on the first of December I stitched the three bands of grass and have been stitching one little tree each day ever since.

I didn’t know if there would be Brown or White floss coming, so I went ahead and added them.  The brown is a Roxy Floss Belsnickel, which was in last year’s countdown and the White is Picket Fence from The Gentle Art.

Happy Stitching!

Prairie Schooler Santa’s & Snowmen

I managed to get a good bit of stitching last week, despite being out and about for a couple of days.  I had a finish, a new start and I stitched on my Christmas Countdown Sal too.

The finish is the first of the Santa’s from Prairie Schooler ‘Santa’s & Snowmen’.

All four of the designs I'm going to stitch need to be a little wider to fit in the tray I have for them, so I added a few extra snowflakes  down the side of this one.

With that finished I started the second one straight away and

that would have been finished too if I hadn't been working on my Holiday Countdown Sal at the same time.

This is where I was after day 16's stitching.

You can’t get away from the fact that Jacob from Modern Folk Embrodery has an amazing talent for designing and when you put that together with Roxy Floss, magic happens.

There is another little project that I have been stitching on daily too, and it's something intended to show off the daily floss colours.
Pop back to see my next post to find out what it might be.

Happy Stitching!

Celebrate 50 Start Along

When Michele from Penny’s Daughter Shares on Instagram said she was going to celebrate her 50th birthday with  a SAL and have 50 new starts in the coming year, I thought she was totally crazy, Lol!

But before I knew where I was,  I was joining in with my 10th new start.

Now I have a question for you:

Do you start projects, not really giving a lot of thought to how you will FFo it until all the stitching is finished?

I’m guessing that this is the way it generally goes, as we gravitate to putting things in frames and making them into pillows, using the cover photo on the chart as our guide.

I do this too, but I also have a box of ‘things’ that I’ve picked up along the way, in the hope I might be able to use them at some point, just like this dish that I found to TK Max.

At the time, I had no idea what I would use it for and then, as I was watching a floss tube from Stacey, the 911 Stitcher, she was showing some Prairie Schooler charts and  among them was Santas & Snowmen.

Further investigation showed these were tiny stitches, just 52 x 42 stitches and would fit into the spaces in the dish, so my plan is to stitch two Santa’s and two Snowmen,

I’ve made a start on the first of the Santa’s.
I’m stitching from stash for these, so I’m using the called for threads if I have them and if not, as close as I can find.

The fabric is a left over piece of 36ct Wren from Picture This Plus.

My SAL is not only going to be about cross stitch, but I'll be include embroidery, knitting and crochet too.

As mentioned, this is my 10th new start for the SAL and of those ten, seven have been FFo’d because they were small.

I also have a few larger projects that I’m hoping to get a start on in the coming weeks, so keep an eye out for those.

Here’s a list of my projects so far:-

1 – Christmas Cheer Santa – Mill Hill - 28/10/23 – finished 25/11/23

2 – Smell Me Feet – La –d-da (free chart) 3/11/23 –   finished 2/11/23

3 – Winter Woodland – Patricia Ann Designs – 14/11/23 – finished 16/11/23

4 – Oh Tannenbaum! Part 1 – Brenda Gervais – 15/11/23 – finished 30/11/23

Christmas Countdown Sal 2023

I’ve not shown my progress on my Countdown Sal fromEvertote, Roxy Floss Co, & Modern Folk Embrodery so far but as we are now eight days in, I thought it was about time I shared.

As much as I enjoyed last year’s band sampler,

I’m enjoying this much more and I think it’s because the colours of the threads are so beautiful.

Kerri has a knack for coming up such fun names and so far we have had Yule Be Pine, Cherry Blossom,  Fresh Cut, Frost & Found, Biscotti, Yonder, Mountain Range and day eight is a stunning deep burgundy called Sommelier.
So, here’s where we are at day seven and day eight is ready to go.

Happy Stitching!

12 Ornaments for 2023

Back in January I decided to join in with the yearlong challenge of stitching one ornament each month and end up with 12 at the end of the year.

I had Novembers to FFo, which was ‘Winter Woodland’ by Patricia Ann Designs.  It’s stitched 1 over 2 on 36ct Sky Linen from Nicholas Flamel Designs, using Weeks Dye Works  threads.

Then I went on to stitch ‘Jingle All The Way’ for December.

This was a chart from Beth Twist of Heartstring Samplery and it was in the 2022 Christmas Ornament Book that was only available at the ‘Jingle Ball’

I stitched mine 1 over 2, on 36ct custom dyed Linen from Nicholas Flamel Designs, using Weeks Dye Works  threads.

All 12 ornaments are now displayed in my sewing room.

Talking of the ‘Jingle Ball’, I virtually attended for the first time this year.

I didn’t have a lot of time over the weekend to join in with the  goings on at the stitching tables, in fact most were empty when I did have time to look in.  I did still have fun watching the pre-recorded entertainment though, especially Teresa Kogut and her other half getting slowly tipsy, mixing (and drinking) Christmas cocktails.

I also managed to do some shopping and got my mitts on a chart from Jeanette Douglass I had my eye on,

as well as this years Christmas Bauble Book

And for this year only, the book from last year was also available, so I nabbed that too.
There were also a few other charts on my wish list, including the European Christmas Box from  Jeanette Douglas,
but they weren't exclusive to the jingle ball and I prefer paper charts to PDF's, so I decided to wait to get them.
All in all it was a fun experience, so It’s already on my calendar for next year!

Happy Stitching!
