August Round-up

I love it at the end of the month when you look back to see just how much you accomplished over the past few weeks.

I finished the month with 7 FFO’s, I think that’s a record for me!

I worked on two Wip’s, both of which were FFO’d.  They were ‘A Kiss for Snowman’ & ‘Prairie Schooler Santa 1995’

One was a stitch back from the framers, Oh Holy Night

And I had 6 new starts, 4 of which were FFO’d.

‘I Would Rather Be Stitching’, ‘Reindeer Clasic Christmas Ornament’, ‘ A Bee C’ and ‘Honey Faire’

The other two new starts that will now carry over into my wips are Be Contained Etui and Autumn Dream

So all in all, not a bad month.

Sampler September hasn’t got off to a good start because I and still waiting for my fabric to arrive from 123 stitch, but I have all the called for threads, so I’m ready go as soon as it drops through my door.

I’m going to do ‘Mighty Acorn’ from Blackbird Designs, Winds of Autumn book.

I did still have a new start on the 1st September though.

Stacy, the 911 Stitcher was having a little challenge in her Facebook group, so I decided to join in.

The brief was to stitch on something (new or a wip) that contains something that begins with a letter from S,E,P,T,E,M,B,E,R, over the weekend (Friday to Sunday) or stitch 500 stitches over that time.

I went with the letters and started ‘Gossamer Slipper’,

a kit from Bothy Threads.  It has Black Cats, a Pumpkin, a Shoe and Spiders, so I think I’m covered, although the cats are more Grey than Black!

I decided to change the 14ct white Aida in the kit  for some Mauve 36ct Linen from Coffee Craft Fabrics.

Happy Stitching!

Honey Faire – October House Fiber Arts

Don’t you just love it when you hit upon a cross stitch series that you love stitching!

Well that’s exactly how I feel about this series from October House Fiber Arts.

I've just finished Honey Faire

It’s stitched on  a piece of  32ct Pale Cream Belfast Linen, from my stash and  I’ve used all the called for threads, which were a combination of Weeks Dye Works and Classic Colorworks.

I decided that my bees' wings needed a little sparkle, so I added in a thread of Glissen Gloss Rainbow, (303) which did the trick.

I finished it as a little pillow to match the first one, using some Moda ‘Renew – Sweetwater’ from a layer cake and made a crocheted trim for around the edge.

Back in June, I stitched the first in the series, Strawberry Faire

and Pumpkin Fair is due to be released in September and I can’t wait to get my hands on it!

I wonder what others there might be in the series, perhaps Apple, Pear, Cherry or maybe Acorn, we'll have to wait and see, but I hope there will be lots more!

Happy Stitching!

A Bee C – Primrose Cottage Stitches

I loved working on Primrose Cottage Stitches, ‘I Would Rather Bee Stitching’ earlier in the month, so  when I was looking for another bee project, A Bee C from the same designed was the perfect fit.

As all the DMC threads, which were the same as the last chart, were already in my ‘Bee Bag’, it was just down to finding a suitable piece of Aida to stitch on and I was off.

It was such a quick stitch and was finished with just five evenings of stitching.

I decided to fully finish it as a pillow with a ruffled ribbon and bead trim and I had a cute little tray that I painted to sit it in.

Continuing with my bee theme and with my last project under my belt, I picked up ‘Honey Faire’ by October House and made a start.

Happy Stitching!

Feeling Accomplished

I had a fun day of finishing yesterday and managed to get 5 FFO’s under my belt.

First up was my Prairie Schooler Santa 2004, that I stitched for the 12 in 23 Ornament Challenge.

(I know you may have seen this in my last post, but just in case you missed it, here is is again.

Then I  ffo’d my June Cross Stitch Camp piece.

I made ‘Strawberry Faire’ by October House into a little pillow, adding some crocheted trim that I made with a skein of DMC floss.

The next thing I picked up out of the box ‘Stitching Makes Me Happy.

The chart was part of 'The 12 Days of Christmas' put together by Sheri, The Colorado Cross Stitcher back in 2021.  I  eventually stitched it for Winter Camp in February 2022.

Can’t believe it’s taken me this long to FFO it!.

I thought I would try something a little different with – Chubby Bunny from Jeanette Douglas.

I purchased a blank wooden piece from Hobby Craft, painted it with Acrylic paint and added some charms and beads.

I’m not sure I’m happy with it though, so it could well morph into something else in the near future!

Lastly I pinned and framed the secret stitch, which I will share later in a separate post.

 Happy Stitching!

Strawberry Faire – October House

This week’s stitching for ‘Cross Stitch Camp hasn’t gone without the dreaded visit from the frogs………..it must be all that water around camp that attracts them!

But on the up side, I do have a finish.

This is where I put it down, the last time you saw it.

And this is it finished, I just want to crochet some trim and then I can FFO it.

I think I mentioned last time that I love the pretty colour pallet, and the detail in that strawberry is just something else.
That’s the reason I’m looking forward to starting ‘Honey Faire’ as next months project.

I made a fair bit more progress on ‘5 O’clock from Ink Circles too, but can you spot my mistake?

I picked up the wrong dark green for the edge of the clock and now I can’t find the bobbin for it.  I don’t know what number it should be because I subbed it for an Anchor thread, but as it goes, I actually like the lighter shade better, so I’m thinking I might just frog the bits I’ve already stitched in the original thread, we’ll have to see.

I also made a start on my 12 in 23 Christmas Ornament for June but again I’ve stuffed up, because I decided to stitch my first Prairie Schooler Santa and now I’m thinking he might be a little too big to be classed as an ornament.

So this one is the ‘Santa Revisited’ from 2004.

There’s a lot of stitching in that red, so for now though I’m sticking with it, and later in the month if time permits, I’ll stitch another ornament.

I’m off to sit on the patio and enjoy this wonderful hot weather now, before the threatened thunderstorms arrive.

Happy Stitching
