Christmas Countdown

Here we go with parts 15 and 16 of the Nordic Christmas Countdown, the collaboration from Evertote,  Modern Folk Embroidery and Roxy Floss Co.

Day 15 we had the most beautiful deep, deep burgundy thread, called Pinot Noir. Sadly the colour doesn't show up well here, but believe me, it's lush!

And we had to stitch what looks like the start of the lower portion of the design.  I think this is my favourite thread so far.

I may have said that before, Lol!

We also learned about a ‘flammable’ tradition from Jacob, that is all about a burning goat  over on his You Tube channel.

Day 16 is another shade of thread that’s fighting for 1st place in my favourites list, ‘Gilded’.

The name says it all really, because it’s a rich golden yellow and is perfect for today stitching, which are some crowns among other things.

Right, I’m off now to listen to the beautiful piece of music that Jacob has for us today.

Happy Stitching!

Dream of a Winter Garden – Modern Folk Embroidery

I know ‘it’s a thing’ that we Brits are said to like to talk about the weather and that’s exactly what I’m about to do, so please forgive me.

November so far has been dull  and murky and I’m so fed up with it if I’m honest.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s not been wet and windy as it can sometimes be in November, but we have had low cloud that’s trapped, making it grey and miserable and it's seems like it's been like this for weeks. In fact, apparently some places have had less that 2 hours of sun light breaking through so far this month!

I guess I shouldn’t complain though and be thankful that we haven’t had to cope with the horrific flooding that Spain and India has been dealing with and the hurricanes out in the USA.

For all those doubters out there, Climate Change really is a thing.

My thought have definitely been turning towards preparing for Christmas this week, with a visit to a Garden Centre on the outskirts of Cambridge that’s around 1 and a half hours drive from where I live, with my good friends Susan & Edd.

It’s a trip we make every year, to have a nice lunch, look around all the Christmas decorations and get into the spirit of the season.

I was restrained in my purchases but still managed to spend over £50 on these three light up parcels and some pretty Mauve/Plum coloured foliage, among other bits and pieces.

Talking of the Season, I finished stitching on ‘Dream Of A Winter Garden from Jacob de Graaf of  Modern Folk Embroidery this week.

It was stitched on  36ct Linen – Doubloom – Picture the Plus using the left over Roxy Floss Co  threads from my 2022  Christmas Countdown Box from Evertote, in Canada.
Which reminds me, this year’s box is here and ready to make a start on come December 1st, if I can hold out that long, lol!

I had two new starts this week too.

The first is ‘Log Cabin Fox’, the third part of Log Cabin Christmas series from Little house Needleworks.

I guess I should get a wriggle on with this because the 9th and final chart dropped through my letter box this morning.

My second new start was Country Charm, a chart that I came across a few years back, in an old copy of The Word Of Cross Stitching.

I have a cousin who really loves Hares, so I thought I would stitch it for her as a gift for her 70th birthday in January.  I’m going to make it into a straight forward pillow, as opposed to a bolster as the chart shows though.

I’m stitching mine on 36ct Parchment linen from Thomas Flamel Designs, using the called for DMC threads.

And finally, the last thing I was stitched on was my wip, 'Santas House', from Cottage Garden Samplings.

Well, I think that’s about it for this week, so have a good week, take care and …….

Happy Stitching!

The Advents are Finished and a New Year is on the Horizon

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas

After all that preparation, it’s hard to believe that it’s over and we are just two days away from a new year.

Christmas for me was a quiet one, but it gave me the time for some stitching and although there was no new start on Christmas Day, I did instead finish the two Advent Sals I had been working on since the start of December.

The first was the countdownsal2023 which I will frame.

The second was the Advent Tree Sal (2022) from em_bea_roidery on Etsy, using the 25 threads from the countdown sal and I finished it in a hoop.

Both sals were fun to stitch, but really do have to thank the team at Evertote, Kerri  from  Roxy Floss Co, and Jacob of Modern Folk Embrodery, for putting the countdown together for us, as well as the gift of the extra chart on Christmas Day, I can't wait to stitch it!

Happy Stitching!

The Christmas Tree Farm is Growing

I’m four more day into my Holiday Countdown Sal and it means I’ve added another four trees to the 2020 Sal from  em_bra_roidery on Etsy.

Just two trees to go and then it will be ffo’d into a hoop.

This is where the countdown is after the addition of the four new threads.

 Happy Stitching!

My Mystery Daily Stitch

In my last post I said that I had been working on something else, alongside my Holiday Countdown Sal and since the last showing I’ve added two more beautiful colours of Roxy Floss  thread to it.

Anyway, going back to the other project, last year I saw that there was a free embroidery sal from @em_bra_roidery, on Instagram, but by the time I saw it, it was a little late to start.

Beatrice does a free Sal every year but I thought the trees from last year would be the perfect way to show off the flosses used on the Holiday Countdown so far.

So, on the first of December I stitched the three bands of grass and have been stitching one little tree each day ever since.

I didn’t know if there would be Brown or White floss coming, so I went ahead and added them.  The brown is a Roxy Floss Belsnickel, which was in last year’s countdown and the White is Picket Fence from The Gentle Art.

Happy Stitching!

Prairie Schooler Santa’s & Snowmen

I managed to get a good bit of stitching last week, despite being out and about for a couple of days.  I had a finish, a new start and I stitched on my Christmas Countdown Sal too.

The finish is the first of the Santa’s from Prairie Schooler ‘Santa’s & Snowmen’.

All four of the designs I'm going to stitch need to be a little wider to fit in the tray I have for them, so I added a few extra snowflakes  down the side of this one.

With that finished I started the second one straight away and

that would have been finished too if I hadn't been working on my Holiday Countdown Sal at the same time.

This is where I was after day 16's stitching.

You can’t get away from the fact that Jacob from Modern Folk Embrodery has an amazing talent for designing and when you put that together with Roxy Floss, magic happens.

There is another little project that I have been stitching on daily too, and it's something intended to show off the daily floss colours.
Pop back to see my next post to find out what it might be.

Happy Stitching!

Advent Calendars – Day 24 & 25

Day 24 is the final day of the Patchwork Rabbit Advent and the best was saved for last.

It was this sweet little pair of Black ‘Storklettes’ miniature scissors from Kelmscott Designs.

Day 24 of ‘The Holiday Countdown’ Sal, was the chart and the Leo & Roxy Floss Co, thread.

This time it is  ‘Deep Dive’, another deep, deep Green.

There was also an extra day with this sal, so one last part of the chart and beautiful floss from Leo & Roxy Floss Co;-  Frosty Fern.

With that, that Friesian Band Sampler is complete and I’m thinking of making mine into a needle case.

There was also another surprise in the last packet…..a beautiful chart,  ‘Dream Of A Winter Garden’.

It’s sad that both of the Sal’s have come to an end,  but I have lots of new floss to stitch with over the coming year.

So I have to say a big that you to Karla of ‘The Patchwork Rabbit, Jacob from Modern Folk  Embroidery, Caroline from Evertote and Kerri from Leo & Roxy Floss Co (soon to be Roxy Floss Co), for putting together such fantastic collections  can’t wait for next year!!

Happy Stitching!

Advent Calendars – Day 23

The Patchwork Rabbit;

Classic ColorWorks – Tropical Paradise

 The ‘Holiday Countdown Sal;

Chart

Thread - Leo & Roxy Thread Co. – Cool to Yule

I think this has to be my most favorite colour of the whole stitch-a-long.  It's a beautiful shade of heathery/lilac.........sooooo pretty!!

We’ve just one more band to go and we reach the end, so I’ve been giving some thought about what I will do with it when it’s finished.

Frame it………make it into a pillow…….but no……….

I’m think I’m going to make mine into a needle book because I need somewhere to keep my needles and this will be perfect.

Happy Stitching!
