The first ' Sampler Camp'

When Sheri, the Colorado Cross Stitcher, of Cross Stitch Camp fame said she was going to do a ‘Sampler Camp’ for the first time, running from September to December,  I wasn’t sure if the chart I had in mind to stitch was really a ‘true’ sampler.

The chart I had chosen was ‘The Stitcher’ from Homespun Elegance and one that I had wanted to stitch for a very long time.  I think the chart was first published in 1995 and I finally got my hands on a copy last year.

My thoughts were, well it’s got an alphabet on it, so I’m going for it, Lol!

The brief was to make it our own in some way so I made a few changes to mine.

First off, I decided to introduce some Purple, my favourite colour into mine.

I swapped the position of the ‘H’ and ‘S’ which are my initials, and stitched them in the Purple so they stand out and  stitched the centre verse in the same colour.

I also changed the stitchers' dress to Purple and changed the cat to look like my Bo Jangles who is sadly no longer with me , making him Black and White with a Ginger patch over one eye.

……..you’re never far from my thoughts Bo .

Because I had stitched it on a small scrap of left over fabric, I had very little to play with when it came to finishing.  In the end I decided to cover the backboard with Purple fabric and them mounted the piece onto mount board and edged it with lace.

Fortunately, before I FFo'd it I realised that I had miss off one very important thing,  she didn't have a needle and thread, so it was 'my' needle and thread to the rescue.

Happy Stitching!

Sue
